Carter's Lake April 7-9
Day paddlers welcome!
If you're camping be aware that this is a "regulated lake". What that means is water is pumped into the lake from below the dam. Water levels rise by a whopping 2' at night (when you least expect it) If you don't tether or drag your boat high it will drift off resulting in "best case" relying on a fellow paddler to recover your boat at pre-dawn. The worst case is Bubba & friends doing 50Kts in their bass boat hitting and destroying your yak, getting thrown overboard in which case you could go to prison.
On the lighter side, Wildlife is abundant. You can sneak up on wild turkeys, foxes and a plethora of other wildlife. If we don't have a freeze I think there will be abundant wild azaleas in bloom.
Refrain from taking trophies, particularly hornet nests.

AK Members is really a misnomer as the AK "structure" does not support membership in the traditional sense. We don't issue cards or collect dues. Our "non-members" number in the hundreds and you never know who you'll run into. Outings posted on the The Forum are not restricted to paddling. It could be a hike, a cycle, a campout or a poker game.
As a general rule there is at least one outing a week posted either in the AK Sponsored or Member Outings topics. Posting in this section implies that it is a (unless otherwise noted) a public event open to commentary and participation. The Atlanta Kayakers Forum a dynamic way to meet new people and share your favorite places. As a general rule a paddle is the focus of these outings but it needn't be. The diverse AK'ers have equally diverse interests .
